PRACTITIONER to PRACTITIONER

Welcome to a new feature of FeldenkraisNY.org! Postings on this page are current as of June 7, 2008.

This page is for NY Region member practitioners who have offerings uniquely for other practitioners and or trainees. If you have a workshop about skills for working with students who have strokes, or you wish to teach a course on improving your skills in teaching ATM, this is your page to let other practitioners know.

  • What is the difference between "working on" a student and "working with" a student in an FI lesson? From Maxine Davis

Among the many skills we have to learn as FeldenkraisĀ® practitioners, creating the space for the "working with" is so central to our work, and yet elusive to verbalize much less to address directly. Recently I gave a workshop to 3 pairs of practioners using ATM, an interelational exercise and a "group FI" on this topic, addressing it by doing rather than talking. It went so well that I would like to offer it again, keeping at the same number of participants. For those of you who don't know me, I was a singer and pianist in my pre Feldenkrais life. I've taught voice for over 30 years and began learning a la Feldenkrais in 1984, first privately and in classes with Anat Baniel, and then graduating from her first NY Training in 1991. I have been a full time practitioner offering Feldenkrais and voice lessons and various mixtures of the two here in NY, teaching classes first at NYU and now at the 92nd St. Y, and at Chautauqua Institution for 2-3 weeks each summer. I have studied and been shaped by many interests and people in my conscious effort to mature as a human being and it is the depth of the Feldenkrais meethod that has informed my learning and my teaching. The ability of the practitioner to create the space for "working with" the student is also creating the foundation that depth to emerge in each of us and in the learning process.

If you are interested as an individual or have a group of 4-6 practitioners who would like to explore this with me contact me at 212 874-0554 or To begin I'm suggesting a couple of Sundays. summer is fast approaching, we may not do this until the fall 2008. The place is 22 West 88th, St., #4 New York, N.Y. 10024 and the fee will be $90.
